Seeing Stars in Fairfield

I was warmly welcomed last Thursday to the lovely Lawrence Public Library in Fairfield, Maine.

With the help of Children’s Librarian, Alyssa Patterson, I set up my pretend beach in the cheerful children’s reading room.

Thanks to Library Director Louella Bickford for this shot of me reading Ana and the Sea Star.

Kids tried the locomotion game with their sea stars in hand, and then colored a pocket for keeping. I brought some sanded pastel paper, like I used in illustrating the book, and invited everyone to try it.

Stella gave me her drawing! Thank you!

I also brought a large pad, and this artist began making a wide blue sea in my favorite shade of blue.

Even Alyssa made a vibrant abstract pastel.

Stella did this drawing in honor of the mini strawberry cupcakes on hand. Yum!

Thank you, Lawrence Public Library, for a delicious outing with young readers and artists!

My next Summer Reading visit will be to the Graves Memorial Library in Kennebunk on July 12. Can you join me there?

I am today tucked into my cool studio, working on a pastel for the Color of Peaks, which happens this Friday at the TEIA down the hill from my house. I will be selling books and prints of pastels, plus the fresh one I am trying to finish! A big bonus is that our daughter has been painting, too. Look for both of us, if you can.

Meanwhile, Happy Fourth to all!

  1. As always, I love seeing each trip you take and how quickly you get the children interested in following and expanding their artistic talents.
I LOVED that strawberry !!! A winner I hope they will frame!

    • Thanks, Gunnel! Agreed, the kids I meet don’t need instruction at all. They intuitively dive into the materials I offer them. All I do is bear witness!

  2. I hope your HOT 4th was a good one and that Daisy’s days delight, as always. Enjoy your Peaks art… I am always there in spirit.
    ❤️❤️❤️

    • Thanks, Diane, it has been a marvelous summer so far!
