It’s been two weeks since we visited the Other Portland, but the glow remains. This is one souvenir, a tea towel by Catstudio.
ICON8 kept us pretty busy, but we enjoyed many sights in transit. Especially the public art. An eyeball with a steering wheel, now that’s a metaphor I can love.
This one’s on a busy island, so people walk through it. Total whimsy.
A monument to two wheels.
This is my sketch of a sculpture seen on the way to the airport. A funny cloud standing on steel rain.
Loved this assemblage seen at Oblations, spokes of measurements. Time shines on.
That place is chock full of nostalgia. And yes, I am now reading How to Sharpen Pencils. A surprisingly informative spoof.
The heads at Cargo are not impressed. But I LOVE that place.
Lots of good window shopping.
I miss these days.
There were fancy vintage phones all over the Benson.
They provided doubledecker bus transport, but what fun is that?
We walked or took the MAX.
Everybody else was on a bike.
Enjoyed the parallel universe of Portland theater posters.
And we had the privilege of seeing a real writer’s shed with reclaimed windows and tiles.
Here’s the writer’s indoor studio, where Daisy scanned the bookshelf of awesome. Thanks, Susan!
We made a drive-by of the iconic Portland signage.
These paper decorations were all over at ICON8. I wish I knew the artist!
Magpie: best vintage and taxidermy.
In general, signage all over town is just lovely.
Even the Police Bureau looks inviting.
Did you know Portland, OR got it’s name from a penny toss? One guy from Portland, Maine and one from Boston, Massachusetts.
This detail from the ICON8 tape mural beckoned us Donut Dunkers.
The line at Voodoo is too long, sorry. Heard it from our locals that Blue Star was better. And so it is.
After ICON8 was over, we ventured over the Willamette River to the Portland Zine Symposium.
Leave it to zinesters to make it easy to find.
I was delighted to see Kinoko again, who I met at ICON8. She is one Power Girl!
We headed back downtown, imbibing more delicious signage.
We were drawn to a magnificent brunch here by the sign.
On our last stop we paid homage to this sculpture, a gift from China that is teapot replica.
I bought a polka dot backpack at Animal Traffic just to lug home my ICON8 haul.
And my Portland Zine Symposium loot!
Portland, Oregon…you will live long in our hearts!
