Happy Fall, everyone! When the air is crisp and the skies cloudless, I enjoy wandering the neighborhood on nights like these.
The moon inspires my life and art in so many ways.
Taking little breaks to witness natural beauty keeps me balanced.
I’m pleased to announce the arrival of the 2019 Lunar Calendar, which I illustrated back in June when the dandelions were in full bloom. Do they not remind you of the moon?
The publisher, Nancy F. W. Passmore of The Luna Press, sent along an envelope full of poems in May. One by Beatrice Greene titled “ms. dandelion” struck a chord. As soon as I chose that for my inspiration, I was seeing dandelions everywhere.
Here is my ms. dandelion, queen of the flower with “medic’l power”….who is also a little inspired by reignglobal, a real queen of epic style.
As for the cover, I kept it simple, with repeating globes of light against the ocean’s edge.
Meanwhile the art went off to the printer and I enjoyed more nocturnal inspiration. This Moody Point moon will appear in my latest picture book, written by Lyn Smith.
I also updated my etsy shop, where you can find moon inspired prints like this Heron Moon, from a previous Lunar Calendar. I often spy herons at low tide, and collect feathers along the way.
On those nights that are too foggy or wet, I can find indoor fascination with this 3D moon lamp that Marty gave me as an anniversary gift. It pairs well with the wonderful book, This Book Is a Planetarium, I gave him, which includes an ingenious pop-up of the constellations.
And now, TA DAH!! The Luna Press delivered once again! I love gifting these to the goddesses in my life.
I also receive plenty of postcards, too. I can check the moon rise times daily and be ready for Mother Nature’s rhythms. The cycle at a glance is helpful.
Tonight’s full moon rise should be a beauty, and I’ll be watching by the edge of the sea. Get thee outside, all you divine lunatics.
Dearest Jamie
Happy Lunatic autumn to you too!
Thank you for taking us along on yet another magical trip with you.
This one is incredibly beautiful!!!
I expect and hope to see it in a forthcoming book down the road.
Another “trip” in the making!
Love
Gunnel
Thank you, dear Gunnel. You are a goddess in your own right, I hope to see you soon!
